Understanding the Buddhist Scriptures
Amongst the many books written by Bhante Dhammika, his book titled, “The Buddha’s Words”, provides extracts from the Buddhist scriptures from the Tipitaka and post-canonical literature, arranged so that the reader can read an extract every day for a year as part of a practice to “Recollect the Dhamma” and for those who wish to learn about Buddhism through the Buddha’s words.
In this course, Bhante Dhammika, will explore the Buddha’s scriptures, drawing on the wisdom from the Buddha’s words that have been passed on from generations to generations, since over 2600 years ago.

Bhante Dhammika was born in Australia in 1951 and became a monk in India in 1976. Since then he has lived mainly in Sri Lanka and Singapore and returned to his homeland to live in 2017. Bhante studied at Kelaniya University’s Post-graduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies and was one of the co-founders of the Nilambe Meditation Centre in Sri Lanka. In 2000 he represented Theravada at the European Buddhist Union’s Millennium Conference in Berlin. Bhante is a well-known speaker and has written some 20 books and numerous articles on various aspects of Buddhism. His book Good Question Good Answer has been translated into more than 30 languages and has come to be considered a minor classic of Buddhist literature.
