Second Chances: The Liberation Prison Project and finding freedom from the prisons of our minds
An evening with Venerable Thubten Chokyi
When: Friday, 20th May 2016 | 7-9pm (6.30 for 7pm start)
Venerable Thubten Chokyi is the Executive Director and Teacher Coordinator of the Liberation Prison Project. The LPP is a Tibetan Buddhist organisation and social services project that offers spiritual advice and teachings, as well as books and materials, to people in prison interested in exploring, studying and practicing Buddhism. Since its conception in 1996, the project has supported over 20,000 prisoners in their Buddhist practice in Australia, US, NZ, Spain, Mexico, Mongolia and Italy. Every month, LPP receives about 1000 letters from prisoners in Australia and Australia, prisoners seeking liberation of their own minds.
Although our bodies are not imprisoned against our will, but how free are we from the entrapment of our own mind? Are we still chained to the past? Are we still punishing ourselves with guilt and anger? Are we stuck in unwholesome habitual patterns? Can we be free from the impurities of our mind and the burdens of our heart?
