Metta Centre and Students for Charitable Causes invite you to join a special edition of the Wednesday Wisdom series where you will have the opportunity to meet club executives and other members, whilst gaining valuable insight for your personal development.

Markus will give a talk on the topic of meditation and charity work. A part of the talk will be about different meditation methods (see speaker info for retreats as an example of the teachings). The other part will be about charity work and how a lifestyle of giving and sharing improves our mind. This is spoken about in the school video below.

About the speaker: Markus Meier started Vipassana meditation in 2005. Shortly afterward, he set up a small meditation center in Heidelberg, where he taught for five years. During this time, he also trained as a naturopath and graduated with a specialization in bodywork and detox purification methods.  In 2011 he went to Asia to learn various healing techniques (Ayurvedic medicine, Thai yoga massage etc.). In 2012 he ordained as a Buddhist monk at Pa Auk Monastery, Myanmar, where he spent 2 years. Since 2014 he has been commuting between Asia and Europe to deepen his own practice and pass on the Dhamma. In 2015 he began teaching meditation retreats in Germany, Thailand and Myanmar.

Since 2015 Markus has been working in aid projects in Myanmar to support orphans in monastic education schools. In 2016, he founded the charity Mudita Foundation, which aims to promote education, health, and ecology for underprivileged children in Myanmar. From 2018 to 2021, Markus built a large boarding school within a Buddhist monastery (Monastic education school) that housed 250 unprivileged children and 50 staff members. The self-sufficient project was set up as an eco-village with sustainable eco-houses, farms, workshops and a small meditation center. Since 2022, Markus has been running a school for refugee children on the Thai-Myanmar border town Mae Sot. He is teaching meditation in his school community and offers courses in Buddhist psychology.
