Buddhism In Unexpected Places

Discover some unexpected Buddhists and learn why the Buddha said that the best kind of wisdom is understanding something for ourselves
Buddhism In Unexpected Places Presenter: Venerable Akaliko   Wed 25 May | 7-8.30pm   Online: links provided below   Cost: Free What do Barbie, the Matrix movies, and Tina Turner have in common? They have all been inspired by Buddhism! The wisdom of Dhamma turns up in odd places: such as people meditating to death metal music, or children telling us the meaning of life, or jokes that reveal profound truths. Join Bhante Akāliko to discover some unexpected Buddhists and learn why the Buddha said that the best kind of wisdom is understanding something for ourselves. About the speaker: Akāliko Bhikkhu is an Australian monk in the Theravada forest tradition. Bhante Akāliko first encountered Buddhism as a teenager and spent over twenty years practising in different traditions before taking full ordination with Ajahn Brahm as his preceptor at Bodhinyana monastery in 2016. He currently resides with his long-term teacher, Bhante Sujato, at Lokanta Vihara (the Monastery at the End of the World) in Sydney, Australia. Bhante Akāliko is the founder of Rainbodhi LGBTQIA+ Buddhist Community and a Buddhist chaplain at Western Sydney University. He is also on the board of directors of the Buddhist Council of NSW.
